It was specifically meant to train men and women on modern methods of farming to raise their productivity potentials and to impart skills for improved housing. It was also to teach rural households develop and use improved household items and farm implements to boost household food production.
ASE has given due importance to training and education ever since its establishment. For instance, between 1969 and 1976, it provided correspondence education to smallholder farmers.

ASE has been monitoring the impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on its operations since the third week of March 2020. ASE followed guidelines from the government of Ethiopia and donor partners in drawing up respective response plan and implementation procedures. Accordingly, in close consultation with donor partners (CARE Ethiopia, PADD and CST), activities with a total budget of ETB 7,105,342.00 were proposed for COVID 19 response and mitigation operations in areas of Agri Service presence. Major activities planned are: Awareness raising on COVID-19 mitigation Establishing hand washing centers at public and key locations Provision of hand washing soap, alcohol and sanitizer Provision of personal protective equipment Construct water supply schemes Lifesaving food support Economic recovery activities
